Course Outline

1. Understanding Gas distribution Systems

Lesson one covers the standard operating and gas distribution system for distribution operations centres, through public regulator and metering sites, to regulator stations, and to the delivery to the customer.

2. Identifying System Components

Lesson two features a detailed overview of the main components of hte das distribution system, which includes meters, valves, risers, regulators, shutoffs, and descriptions of how each component functions.

3. Utilizing Facility Information Sources

Lesson three provides an overview of how to get information from the primary and secondary sources that are available to Line Locators, gas workers, and excavators.

4. Infrastructure Visual Inspections

Lesson four covers the step by step instructions on performing visual inspections of gas distribution infrastructure. Starting with Labels and tags, to reading primary and secondary information, line locating, and up to visually identifying excavated facilities.

5. Mitigating Facility Locating Hazards

Lesson five focuses on being able to recognize possible risks and hazards while locating hazards, and knowing how to mitigate and control those hazards. These steps include identification, controls on site, proper documentation of known risks.

6. Line Locating for Gas Facilities

Lesson six covers signal application points and how to select the proper points based on the facilities that are being located. This course covers selecting the proper method of line locating, understanding risks, and how to properly document any findings.
